It’s A Bird, It’s a Plane, It’s a Boeing F/A-18 Super Hornet

The Blue Angels are not just a group of skilled pilots, but a symbol of excellence and dedication to service. These 16 officers who voluntarily serve with the team represent the very best of the United States Navy and Marine Corps, showcasing their teamwork and professionalism through breathtaking flight demonstrations and community outreach.

Every year, the team selects three tactical jet pilots, two support officers, and one Marine Corps C-130 pilot to join their ranks and relieve departing members. Each officer typically serves for two years, returning to the fleet after their tour of duty.

At the heart of the Blue Angels is a mission to inspire a culture of excellence and service to country. As they soar through the skies, the six pilots of the team exemplify this mission in every maneuver.

The Blue Angels team is comprised of six pilots, each with their own unique background and expertise. First up is CDR Alexander Armatas, the Flight Leader and Commanding Officer, who has logged over 3,900 flight hours and over 500 carrier arrested landings.

Next up is LCDR Chris Kapuschansky, the Right Wing pilot. He has over 2,000 flight hours and was previously a weapons tactics instructor. Then there's LT Amanda Lee, the Left Wing pilot, who has over 1,200 flight hours and was a member of the first all-female F/A-18F Super Hornet demonstration team.

LT Scott Goossens is the Slot pilot, with over 1,800 flight hours and previous experience as a test pilot. LCDR Julius Bratton is the Lead Solo pilot, with over 1,600 flight hours and experience as a naval aviator and an F/A-18 instructor. Finally, there's LCDR Griffin Stangel, the Opposing Solo pilot, who has over 1,500 flight hours and previously served as a flight instructor and squadron safety officer.

Each of these pilots has dedicated their career to serving their country and showcasing the incredible skill and professionalism of the United States Navy and Marine Corps. They serve as an inspiration to future generations, showing what can be achieved through dedication, hard work, and a commitment to excellence.

It takes more than just individual talent to make the Blue Angels soar. These pilots must work together seamlessly in order to execute their precise maneuvers with speed and accuracy. The trust and camaraderie they build during their time with the team extend beyond the cockpit and into their lives as they carry on their mission of excellence and service.

As spectators look up to the sky and witness the awe-inspiring performances of the Blue Angels, they are reminded of the power of teamwork, dedication, and service. The Blue Angels continue to inspire generations of young men and women to strive for excellence and make a difference in the world.
